Bright Idea
Here's an idea for when you use a counterweight and pulley to drop a bucket from the top of your RGM to lift a load from the bottom: Place your top bucket on a piece of paper with a small curve to support the bucket at the top. Test to make sure that when you add just a little more counterweight into the top bucket that the paper gives way and the bucket/counterweight drops like an anvil (hopefully not on an unsuspecting technology teacher below!). This will give whatever is coming up the tower on the other end of your string additional kinetic energy and momentum!

Bright Idea
A two liter bottle can be used as a funnel. Cut the bottom off the bottle (use a knife to make a small slit, then cut it off with scissors, it's safer!) If you end a high speed marble run at a low angle the marble will spiral down the inside of the bottle until it drops out the small opening chewing up some time. *Remember* you want you're RGM to operate for a minimum of 3 seconds, but over 8 seconds is EXTRA Credit for your team!

Bright Idea
A mini pachinko machine (what's that?...Google it!) can use up time also. Use a 4" - 6" (that's inches) square of wood and pound lines of finishing nails into offset rows and columns leaving enough space between the nails for a marble to bounce down between them. Make sure you put some bumper rails on the left and right sides of your wood square and a couple of downward angled pieces on the bottom to funnel your marble out. This should chew up a little time also. You could make it look like a mini pinball machine even!
