Tech Plan for Week of December 6 - December 10 (Week 8)

This week we will begin the compressed Air Dragster Activitiy. The ADA is a design/fabrication activity where students design and build their own wheeled model dragster which will be raced at the end of the activity against other dragsters in the class (including Mr. Wheeler's Lighting Bolt) to determine how variations in design can effect performance. Everybody that finishes their dragster gets a prize on "Race Day"! There will be awards for the top 3 finishers in each class, plus special awards for innovation, quality, and decoration. Have fun building something you can be proud of!

What is the main idea:
OBJECTIVE
Students will learn the objectives of the Air Dragster activity and how their design modifications to the body are driving factor in performance.
Students will that accurate measurements are critical in good design of prototypes.
Students will review how direct measurements are transfered to a CAD rendering.
Students will learn safe operation of the chop saw, band saw, and drill press.
Students will learn safe operation of the belt and drum sanders.

What students will learn:
ACTIVITY
Working individually students will review the Air Dragster Acticity materials and render a preliminary orthographic sketch of their dragster body.
Working individually students will take direct measurements of their dragster body "shot" and pencil their profiles on the front, top, and side faces. Keep It Simple!
Working individually students will transfer their direct measurements to a CAD rendering.
Working individually students will safely utilize the shop equipment to fabricate their air dragster bodies to the specifications indicated.
Working individually students will safely utilize the shop equipment to customize their air dragster bodies.

Students will present their orthographic concept drawing for 5 performance points.
Students will present their penciled body shot with FTS views for 5 performance points.
Students will present their CAD rendering for 5 performance points.
